2012 Cross-Country Skiing and Team Building Courses for Schools

Students on Team Building course in Norway

On these courses the emphasis is on fun, excitement and learning about teamwork.

The courses have been specifically designed to introduce young people aged between 15 and 18 to the sport of cross-country skiing. They provide 6 days of supervised skiing with a dedicated full time instructor, and utilise the prepared cross-country tracks around Sjusjøen, Nordseter and Lillehammer. These tracks combine to produce what is one of the best Cross-Country Skiing arenas in Europe.

  • Winter navigation and ski orienteering
  • Winter mountain and ski safety, including first aid
  • Biathlon (ski shooting)
  • Leadership skills and team building
  • Ski touring (5-15 kms)

Second year skiers are introduced to winter survival techniques, especially snow-holing, (if snow conditions allow), and ski skating techniques. They also go on longer ski tours (up to 25 kms).

The team building tasks include individual and team challenges and races, which are designed to stretch the most able whilst encouraging individuals to contribute to the overall team performance.

The course aims to take beginners and intermediates to the appropriate nationally recognised Bronze or Silver standard. For the serious athlete, it will provide an opportunity to be coached in a sport that is generally accepted as one of the most demanding of all competitive activities, and can be pursued to Olympic level.

The course is designed for up to twenty-four students. The ideal course structure is for self-contained parties of up to twelve students from two different schools. Each school party must be accompanied by at least one member of staff.
