Norway is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Norwegians are fiercely proud of their country and they make the most of its natural wilderness areas throughout the summer and winter. It is a country of only 4.5 million people inhabiting an area of 385,000 sq kms. Only 3% of this area is cultivable; 25% is covered by forest. It stretches 1752 kms from North to South and has 2650 kms of coastline. Much of the country is north of the Arctic Circle and sees little daylight during the winter.
Skiing has its roots in Norway. Not surprisingly, most Norwegians ski in one way or another during the winter months. Skiing can start as early as October and occurs all the year round on some of the glaciers.

Gala is situated 950 metres above sea level in the Gudbrandsdal valley, with stunning views of both the Rondane and Jotunheim National Parks. It offers something for every age, and has an extensive network of cross-country ski tracks, together with downhill slopes. It is located on the 'Peer Gynt Trail', which links Dalseter in Espedalen to Scheikampen in Gudbrandsdalen by ski tracks. The entire region is one Norway's oldest and best established areas of tourism.
